Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks!

Dr. Jerry Dean Epps

Founder of The Awakening Path

It is hard to say why we humans try so hard to hang on to "old tricks", even when they no longer serve us. But, sooner or later, we let go. Moving on is definitely a part of maturing spiritually. Even though we "old dogs" resist "new tricks", if we yearn strongly enough to have God direct us, we will let go and rejoice at the wonder of the new that comes. This is exactly what has happened in my life and in the Awakening Path, the organization I help lead.

For starters, after five years of service, we disbanded the school we were operating. It was too demanding of time and effort for most people who already had busy lives to lead. It was an intense three "green beret" approach to personal and spiritual growth. Some people benefited immensely, others did not. There are now sufficiently high vibrations on the planet that perhaps a "green beret" approach is not necessary. We feel relieved that we stopped trying to make something work that folks did not really want! So, the old dog had not yet learned a new trick, but he had stopped doing the old one that no longer served.

Enter "new trick"! I had been praying for a less traumatic and very gentle approach to use in psychotherapy. Late one night, having been deeply in prayer, a new approach presented itself to me. It is Protocol 2000. It is a multi-modal healing method with four (4) distinct steps, each of which are proven to work well in healing and creation. It is gentle, supportive and clients love to experience it! While going through it they feel very centered, tranquil, and esteem enhanced - makes them feel good all over! In addition to feeling good, it actually works!

The steps are:

  1. Therapeutic discussion

  2. Spiritual Healing

  3. Focused Prayer

  4. Hypnosis

This is a powerful combination that is most effective in delivering change and healing.

Another "new trick". Although the school has been disbanded, we want to offer something that is inspiring and supports one's spiritual life. We want to be with like-minded folks who desire spiritual camaraderie, especially when spiritually charged energy permeated the gathering.

Change is not always easy, yet so necessary to growth. Progress does not come by maintaining the status quo. Where are you hanging on? Where won't you let go? What no longer fits in your life that you still have at your side? We had to make BIG changes - we felt them deeply. Letting go of cherished dreams was not easy. But we knew something new was calling. We had to make room for it and we are glad we did. We support you in letting go too. Be an old dog that CAN learn new tricks. If any of our offerings call to you, from spiritual psychotherapy to the in-person fellowship. But most of all, we share this: Old dogs can learn new tricks, and be happier for it! God bless you.
